formed in San Francisco in 1997 by Chris Salter, Sha Xin Wei & Laura Farabough, sponge is an association of artists and researchers who share a commitment to creating public experiments as artifacts of cultural engineering. |
a group of talented artists and writers without a portfolio and communications tool is not much use to themselves or to their fund raising.
primarily the site exists to catalog their past work, installations, performances and writing

was approached by Professor Sha Xin Wei to redesign the site
architecture and interface in such a way so that having a website
at all would give them a professional face to present themselves
and their work to potential exhibition venues, art shows, donors
and exisiting and potential audiences.
